As per the second schedule of the Union Parishad Act, 2009, the functions of Union Parishad are as follows:
- *Preparation of Panchshala and various term development plans.
- *Development, conservation, and maintenance of rural infrastructure.
- *Relating to education and primary and mass education activities
- *Implementation of health and family planning activities.
- *Undertake necessary activities for agriculture, fisheries and livestock, and other economic development.
- *Necessary activities in epidemic control and disaster management.
- *Assessment and collection of taxes, fees, tolls, fees, etc.
- *Perform necessary activities related to family dispute resolution, the welfare of women and children.
- *To take necessary initiatives and provide cooperation in sports, social development, culture, etc. activities.
- *Taking necessary measures for the development and protection of the environment.
- *To fulfill the responsibilities assigned by the government to maintain law and order and to take necessary action.
- *Birth-death registration.
- *To take care of government places, open spaces, parks, and playgrounds.
- *Lighting of lamps in the streets and government places of Union Parishad.
- *Plantation and conservation and prevention of theft and destruction of tree resources.
- *Maintenance and management of cemeteries, crematoriums, public meeting places, and other government property.
- *Prevent unauthorized entry into highways, highways, and government places and stop harassment and its causes in these places.
- *To prevent damage, destruction, or destruction of highways and highways.
- *Ensure the collection, removal, and management of dung and road waste.
- *Criminal and dangerous business control.
- *Removal and control of dead animals and control of animal slaughter.
- *Construction and reconstruction of new houses, buildings, and control of dangerous buildings in the union.
- *Management and conservation of wells, water taps, reservoirs, ponds, and other water supply sources.
- *To prevent contamination of drinking water sources and prohibit the use of water from wells, ponds, or other sources of water supply that are suspected to be harmful to public health.
- *Restrictions on bathing, washing clothes, or bathing animals in wells, ponds, or other places near water supply reserved for drinking water.
- *Prohibition or control of wetting of sawn, jute, or other trees in or near ponds or water supply.
- *Prohibit or control skin dyeing or tanning in residential areas.
- *Prohibit or control the extraction of stones or other objects by digging the soil in residential areas.
- *Prohibit or control the construction of bricks, earthenware, or other kilns in residential areas.
- *To take necessary action against fires, floods, hailstorms, storms, earthquakes, or other natural calamities and to provide full-time assistance to the government.
- *To maintain and help the list of widows, orphans, poor and needy people.
- *Cooperative movement and development and encouragement of rural industries.
- *Taking measures to produce extra food.
- *To make arrangements for control and maintenance of cattle pens.
- *Arranging first aid center.
- *Take other measures necessary for the safety, comfort or convenience of the residents of the Union.
- *Introducing and promoting e-governance.
- *Expansion of cooperation with other organizations engaged in similar activities like Union Parishad.
- *Responsibilities imposed by the Government from time to time.
